Results from my No Scale Challenge

Filed under: Weight Loss Journey — Trish @ 10:41 am

It was a long week, I’m glad that is over! I was excited to get on that scale this morning, it was like seeing a long lost friend! This friend is evil and I believe is conspiring against me!

I lost nothing! Not 1lb, not even 1 measly ounce.  Oh how I hate you!  I was disappointed. At least I didn’t gain! So, I remind myself to celebrate the small things and not gaining is something to celebrate!

Next was to measure my waist, hips, thighs & arms. I checked and rechecked, I really think that I measured wrong last week. According to my measurements today I lost 4 inches off my waist. I honestly don’t think you can do that in one week, it could be possible I guess, but I am going to go with human error.

I did lose 1 inch off my chest and a 1/2 inch off my thighs. One more little thing to celebrate!

I have moved up to Level 2 on the 30 Day Shred and it is intense. It’s hard and I hate it. Although, I hate it, I do believe it is giving me the results I want to see. It may not be on the scale but I do look thinner and I have some awesome muscles!

Moving forward into next week, I will be doing the same challenge again. I am sure the scale will move eventually…but now I have learned to concentrate on other things and measure success in other ways!!

No Scale Challenge

Filed under: Weight Loss Journey — Trish @ 11:04 am

cartoon_-_dont_step_on_it

Recently I was venting on my Mom’s Group Forum about only losing 4lbs in 7 weeks. I was seriously pissed off! All the work I have done and I still see nothing on the scale, but the same number looking back at me!

My thoughts at that very moment were why even bother, just go ahead and eat whatever you want! I didn’t of course, but…GRRRR!

The voice of reason and wisdom..AKA my dear friend Angie, talked to me about burning fat/building muscle and how only tracking weight is unreliable, but tracking inches can show you where you’re losing.”

She sent me links to 2 articles written about this.

Think Inches, Not Pounds and Losing Inches But Not Losing Weight?

“As you develop muscle and lose fat, you may lose inches instead of pounds. You may even gain weight, but you’ll appear slimmer and trimmer. Because you’re lowering your body-fat percentage and increasing your metabolic rate, you’re improving your physical fitness considerably.”

“When you talk about losing weight, what you usually mean is slimming down. But slimming down doesn’t always mean losing weight. It may sound odd, but it’s possible to get thinner without actually seeing a change in your weight. This happens when you lose body fat while gaining muscle. Your weight may stay the same, even as you lose inches, a sign that you’re moving in the right direction. But, if the scale doesn’t change, you may not even be aware that you’re getting real results. Knowing the difference between losing weight and losing body fat can change how you get results and may even change how you look at your own body.”

I am a scale stalker. I am on the scale at least 2 times a day. Especially in the morning! She issued me a challenge. Measure my my progress in other ways and put the scale away for 1-2 weeks. There is to be no cheating and I can’t weigh myself until the end of the challenge. *GASP* AND…I have to write down something I see improving besides losing inches. Because she is absolutely right when she said that I don’t want to trade one obsession for another.

I took her up on it and did my measurements. I wanted Dale to put the scale in the safe..LOL, but it won’t fit.

Since Saturday, there have been days when I want to get on the scale, the urge is really fierce. I have resisted and one day I didn’t even think about it. That is an improvement. I can only hope to have more days like that one.

I am going to end the challenge on Friday and see how well I did. Although, no matter how it goes, next I will do the challenge for 2 weeks. And maybe one day I won’t have to rely on it so much.

Self Week 12

Filed under: One Little Word, Weight Loss Journey — Trish @ 10:17 am

selfSometimes I have to sit back and scold myself. Only because I was right, I let my weight problem escalate and settled for the person I had become last year. Telling myself yes, this is me, I am fat, I will always be fat, I am big boned, this is who I am. That was not who I was! It is so easy to tell yourself these things everyday and be ok with it, because for me laziness always was easier.

Four months later and 30lbs lighter, I laugh! Living this way, the size I am now is so much easier! I can do things without getting short of breath, like walking up the stairs, playing outside with the kids, exercising everyday without stopping. I can breath and my heart doesn’t feel like it is going to explode. Yes it is hard, yes I still want to eat things I shouldn’t, but it is so worth it. Some mornings, I have to talk myself into exercising. Take this morning for example. My inner thighs are sore, I am talking, when I stoop down to do something I wince. I was standing at the bottom of my stairs, with my bottle of water in one hand and my tennis shoes in the other. I didn’t want to work out. I knew it would hurt. I actually talked to myself out loud. “Turn around, go back and do it!” So I did. Day 9 completed of the 30 Day Shred with Jillian.

I celebrate the small things, like talking myself into working out. It is those moments I am most proud, because dropping my shoes and going upstairs would have been so much easier. There isn’t an easy road when it comes to weight loss. I have had many struggles, frustrations and set backs. I have to make the decision every day to continue. I have to make sure I am eating what I am supposed to. Looking at the backs of foods, for nutrition information is an everyday thing for me. It is a constant battle and it is incredibly hard.

This past Friday Adam & I attended a playdate. I was nervous to go. I have not seen some of my friends since December and I was scared, because I didn’t know if they would be able to tell that I had lost weight. It was silly of me to think like that, but when you have been obese most of your life, those are the things I think about.

I can not tell you how wonderful they are. They saw it right away and the compliments almost brought me to tears. I came home afterwards with a feeling of accomplishment. In the privacy of my own home, I feel accomplished, but when others see how hard you are working, it is hard to put into words how it makes me feel. I thank them, from the bottom of my heart, for their support and kind words.

I took some Week 12 photos this morning and I have to say I am elated! When I seriously started in January, I never thought I could look like this. From a size 26 to a size 18 and from a DD cup to a C cup bra! Even my shoes fit better, who knew you could lose weight in your feet..bwahahaha!

Park Playdate

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 9:29 am

The last week of April, Adam & I met some of our friends for a playdate at the park. With the weather getting warmer, this was just a great kick off to whats to come this summer.

Adam just loves it at this playground, because it is surrounded by water, has lots of fun equipment to play on and birds! He especially loves it when his best bud Ayden comes along to play!

Adam wanted me to take some pictures for him of the different types of birds. It was funny, because he was like Elmer Fudd. He would say to me, “Mommy be very quiet, be very, very quiet!”

The last photo Adam said, “Ohh look a Mommy & Daddy!” Now how cute is that?

Frustration & Struggles

Filed under: One Little Word, Weight Loss Journey — Trish @ 1:17 pm

selfThese are the times, that I want to stop and just eat whatever I want to. April & now into May I have been up and down, up and down within 3-5lbs. I exercise everyday (except weekends), have taken more out of my diet, salt, occasional sodas, only eating one slice of bread a day, eating more proteins and green stuff. I even started a new exercise DVD (30 Day Shred), which I talked about in a previous blog post. I have read this will happen when you are on a long weight loss journey. Even though I know this, it is still very upsetting and frustrating. Especially when you make the necessary changes to start up the weigh loss momentum. I have been grouchy, slightly depressed and blah!

I guess I have to push myself harder, try to keep a better attitude about it or this will cause me to emotional eat. Dear Father, I don’t need to do that…again! I do have one thing that brings a smile to my face, is Dale & my friends! They are very uplifting and supportive. I think I might have given this up a long time ago if it wasn’t for their encouragement.

*sigh* maybe by next Friday I will have better news to report and start loosing again. Crossing my fingers!

CSN Product Review & Give Away!

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 9:49 am

Recently, I blogged about CNS Stores! I was given the opportunity to select a product from their over 200 stores to review. Oh man, was it hard to choose! I received excellent customer service & fast delivery! I can’t say enough about the service they gave me!

I choose the Hamilton Beach 4 quart slow cooker (pictured below) from their store CookWare.com .

crockpot1

I choose this item, because my other crock pot has a crack in the liner and knew at any time it would just break into. I do a lot of crock pot cooking, the ease of put it in and forget about it is what I love the best. Not to mention the wonderful smell that you have in your house all day.

I used this crock pot for a month several times, just to see if it can handle all the work I gave it. There are 6 of us in this house and I am cooking all the time. The crock pot handled each meal I prepared very well, cooked evenly and was a breeze when it came to clean up.

What really brought my attention to this one, is the size. It is smaller than my older crock pot. The one pictured above is 4qts, which is perfect for smaller meals, especially since I have been dieting.

In the photos below you can see how a nice medium size chicken fits in it.

crock

open

I love that the insert comes out for easy clean up & storage. The handles on the sides are deep, large and not hot to touch, so you can move it anywhere you need to.

I don’t have a lot of counter space in my kitchen, so if you are like me, this would be perfect! Even with the crock pot on my counter, I still have room to do whatever I need to.

If I had to say anything negative about the crock pot, would be that it doesn’t have an indicator light on it to let you know what it is in use. Other than that it is perfect for my needs!

You can BUY IT

for only $27.99 at CSN’s CookWare.com Store

Doing the Shred!

Filed under: Weight Loss Journey — Trish @ 10:18 am

base_mediaFor a while now I have been reading a lot about how people are doing Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred. Even a couple of my closets friends have started it. I waited a while before I bought it, because I was happy with my workout routine and was seeing results. I have started to stall a little as far as toning and losing inches. So, this weekend I went out and bought it.

Yesterday was my first day! Now, I was thinking this will be a piece of cake, considering I have work out steady for 3 months, with & without weights! OH MY GOD, was I wrong! 20 mins of pure insanity is what I call it. No breaks, no sweet talk, just pure, non stop exercise madness. And it was only 20 mins! Holy crap, I was sweating in places I didn’t think possible and panting like a dog in the August heat! I have come to 2 conclusions…I need a really nice supportive sports bra, because let me tell you it almost got a little dangerous there for a min and I despise jumping jacks! Who knew jumping jacks would be the death of me…I really dislike them with great intensity (I did say that already, right?)

I am going to stick with it for 30 days, even though the top of my thighs want to argue about it.

Want to know what the funny thing is….it was only LEVEL 1! There are 3 levels…bwahahahaha!

I just keep repeating…beauty & being skinny is pain, beauty & being skinny is pain….some one shot me please! :)
