I don’t remember when we have had this much snow, they say 1995 but I don’t really recall that either. I do remember once when I was younger and all the neighborhood kids and I helped my mom dig out of our driveway. But this was insane!
First we had snow the last weekend of January. It was about 10 or so inches.

I was ok with that. It was beautiful and the kids had fun. I spent most of my day digging out our driveway and Dale was busy replacing our mailbox. Thanks Mr. Snow Plow Man!

This weekend was something totally different! The snow warning became a blizzard warning really fast. Friday night, the snow, sleet, ice started to fall and I was honestly a little bit scared. The noises outside made me think that every tree in our yard was toppling over and hitting the house. Our lights flickered on and off for hours and we lost power completely around 3am. After the kids were finally asleep, the candles lit and the stove burners going (for heat) Dale and I were snuggled in the bed just listening to the awesome power this snow storm dumped on us. But little did we know the worst of it didn’t come until Saturday afternoon, all the way up until about 7pm.
We were up and down all night, just afraid to really sleep. In the morning, Dale went outside and took down the brand new mail box we had put up. We didn’t want to have to replace it again. In the middle of the storm we lost water. Bless my sweeties heart, he went outside again, shoveled the snow that was blocking the entrance under the house. Crawled under the house and turned off our water. I was worried about all the food we had, so again he went outside and dug a walk way to the garage. So I could pack all the food up and put it in there so the food would not spoil. He packed several coolers full of snow along with an old fish tank and piled the bags on top of it.

At that time he brought in the extra water we had stored. We tried to keep the snow off the front steps so we would be able to get out if we had too. But that was just extra work that we could not keep up with.

They declared a State of Emergency and no cars were allowed on the road at all. Only emergency crews were, but they had stopped all plowing because of the high winds and white out conditions.
This is what it looked like from our view.

Our poor trampoline, I don’t know if we will be able to recover that. It may be a goner. Dale went out several more times to charge up our cell phones in his car and he even charged up Elias’ DS so he wouldn’t go absolutely crazy! The kids and I played several board games to pass the time.

That’s Adam’s I am grinning but I don’t like it pose..lol!
About 9pm, we all decided that going to bed would be our best choice, more to pass the time than anything else. Since the only heat we had was from out stove burners, we all stayed close to the kitchen. Elias and Susan slept on the couch and I made Adam the most cozy bed on my floor right next to our bed. I can even remember how many blankets I had him laying on or how many I had piled on top of him. But he was warm and cozy and out like a light within 15mins. Dale and I cuddled up close and held on to each other as we drifted off. But me being the scared over protective person I am set my alarm on my cell phone for every 2 hours. I was up checking the stove burners, letting in fresh air as to not die of carbon monoxide poising, making sure the kids were warm and the candle were still burning. Talk about exhausted the next day! UGH! But with the morning came the calm and that is when the work really started.

About 4am our power was restored. 25hr of no electric…UGH, and we were up not long after that. Dale crawled back under the house and turned our water back on. I had loads of wet clothes I needed to wash and a mountain of dishes. I retrieved all of our food, put it all away again. And Dale and Susan went outside and started digging us out. Good thing he took the new mail box down!

That is just the beginning of the driveway. Which was buried under almost 3 feet of snow! As you can see the roads are horrible, that is the highway! The boys wanted to get in on the action. So I bundled them up and let them loose!

Poor Adam could barely walk and got stuck several times. It took about 7 hours to dig the driveway out. After that Susan and Dale went next door to help them dig out as well.

Now that is a scary wall of snow! I am so proud of Dale & the kids. He worked on getting us safe through out the snow storm and spent the entire day outside. The kids were awesome at pitching in with helping Dad out. I love my family, we came together in a crisis and worked together. Oh yeah we are awesome. And I have to say it was pretty romantic chilling out in the candle light with the man I love!
We are again preparing for another snow coming on Tuesday & Wednesday. This one is bringing between 5-10 inches. We are ready!
