Sleeping babies

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 1:20 pm

We have been letting Elias sleep on the sofa, so we can keep a better eye on him. And last night before I went to bed I took this picture. I guess our cats are worried about him too or they were just cold. LOL!

My little man had to have surgery yesterday. He sailed through with no problems and was a great sport about the whole thing. AI Dupont hospital is the best children’s hospital there is. They were so good with him and us. I just can’t get over it.

Here he is sporting his new look, for the next couple of days, until he can shower. He loves the orange on his belly.

elias5Thanks to everyone for their prayers and support. Lord knows I have been a mess and super duper thank you to my dear friend Michelle. She drove me to the hospital and put us up in her house. Thanks so much!

Memory Lane Monday & TGIF!

Filed under: Daily Thoughts, Memory Lane Monday — Trish @ 11:38 am

I am doing a catch up for the week. I have been so busy this week I can’t wait for the weekend. Although, Dale has made plans for us to steam clean all our carpets. OH JOY!

First let me make sure I do MLM today, before Erin completely looses faith that I will not leave her high and dry with this MeMe. Hang in there with me Erin, I swear next week it will be on Monday.

MIM’s photo is of me and Dale, when we first started dating. Not sure why I look so grumpy, probably because our softball team lost again. Lookit, Dale so handsome in his 80’s retro hair and jeans. He was also wearing the shirt that I bought him. My best friend, Lynn. She was so fun when we did stuff together. Let’s not talk about what was in the green jug. Well it was softball and the game was over, I don’t think I need to say more :) I love this picture because it reminds me of all the fun stuff we used to do before the 4 kids, house, job and well life! Not to mention he drove a nice, fast, sleek, motorcycle! In which I never got on the back of, because he was just to darn wild.

It snowed again. YAY! Of course it didn’t last long, melted right away. But I managed to show the boys how to make a snow man. And finally got a photo of Noah.

snowmanAs you can see there wasn’t a lot of snow, because the poor thing looks like he was rolling around in the dirt and leaves.

noahThis week I also had to take Elias up to AI Dupont Children’s hospital to have a bump on his chest looked at. They will have to do surgery on him, this coming Monday. He isn’t worried or anxious, like he normally would be, that is because the surgeons there are phenomenal with children. He has what they call a Pyongentic Granuloma. A skin condition that will only get bigger and continue to bleed if it isn’t taken off. I am so proud of him, he has been to many Dr’s appts this week and he is taking it all in stride. Here is a photo of the nasty little bump that has been given us so many problems.

eliasgranulomaAnd last but not least, Adam! One of his favorite snacks are Stackers/Stickers. And every time he eats them he has to put them all over his face first. How cute is he?

adamI think that I am caught up now. I have also brought my Project 365 up to date as well. Yay for the weekend. Hopefully we can relax, well, only after we do the carpets!

Baby it’s cold outside

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 10:12 am

We are in the teens this morning, if you factor the wind chill we are in single digits. Yeah, it’s a little cold. Brrr! We all got going a little late this morning and I ended up having to take the kids to school. We just wanted to stay warm in our beds. After some hot coffee for me and some nice warm oatmeal for the kids we were off. Poor Adam didn’t want to get dressed, so I bundled him in his feet y pajamas. He was so cute.  Now it is just him and I in the house and how can one child makes so much noise. He is in rare form this morning.  I hope this energy lasts until tonight and makes him sleep better than he has been lately. But he is a cutie nonetheless.

The other day Elias and Adam were coloring, together with no fighting. YAY! Elias made me a card, so sweet and Adam made this. I LOVE IT! Both of their art work is frame worthy. But I just love all his little people, smiling and having a good ole time. Where ever this world is they are living. :) I want to live there!

Homemade Chicken Pot Pie

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 8:29 pm

I was feeling frisky tonight so I wanted to make something really good. I made a list of dinners I wanted to do over the past 2 weeks and Chicken Pot Pie was one of them. I started at 4:30pm and we finally ate at 6pm. It was worth it, every bite of it.

Chicken Pot Pie & Homemade Biscuits

1 broiler chicken (3 to 3 1/2lbs) quartered. I used a pack of skinless boneless chicken breast and cut them into bite size pieces.

4 cups of water

4 teaspoons chicken bouillon granuales

3 medium carrots

2 medium onions

1 bay leaf

1/2 pound fresh mushrooms quareted (I used canned ones)

2 celery ribs, halved crosswise

3 tablespoons of butter or margarine

5 tablespoons all purpose flour

1/2 whipping cream

1 teaspoon poultry seasoning

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1 cup frozen peas

Biscuits

1-1/2 cups all purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1-1/4 teaspoons sugar

5 tablespoons shortening

1/2 cup milk

In a Dutch oven or soup pot, combine the first 6 ingredients. Bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 mins. Add mushrooms and celery, cover, simmer for 15 mins or until the chicken and vegetables are tender. Remove chicken and vegetables, dice and set aside. Strain broth and reserve 2 cups.

Melt butter in sauce pan, stir in floor until smooth. Cook and stir over medium heat until slightly thickened and bubbly. Gradually stir in cream and reserved broth, bring to boil. Cook and stir for 2 mins. Add poultry seasoning, salt, pepper, peas, reserved chicken and vegetables. Pour into 2 qt round baking dish. Set this aside and keep warm.

For biscuits, combine flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Cut in the shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in milk just until mixed. On a floured surface roll into 1/2in thickness. Cut with a 2in biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on top of chicken mixture. Bake a 400 for 20 mins or until biscuits are golden brown.

Now my biscuits were a little thin, I don’t have biscuit cutters so I used a glass. But they were tasty. I never have any luck with biscuits, but even though these were small they still were moist and yummy.

I will definately be making this again. I think it was a hit….what do you think?

Things that need to be done

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 4:27 pm

I am starting a list. I told Dale today, we have a lot of things going on in this house and nothing is getting finished. In order to even get a handle on how to approach, hanging my curtains, changing the boys rooms around, bring the game room downstairs, cleaning out the toy box, steam cleaning the carpets and maybe painting another room. I decided to make a list of importance. Mind you I have not made the list yet, maybe the first item on my list is to make the list ;)
Also I have been doing Project 365 and I have a page on the top right hand side of this blog that explains it. I have done really well so far 10 days-10 pictures.

I am going to meet some friends for dinner tonight, I so need a night out. Or at least Dale thinks so..lol. So I am going to chat, have some wine and I hope a little laughter!

Snow, Guitar Hero and Year in Review

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 5:58 pm

Oh boy did it snow yesterday. It was so pretty and white for a little while. The boys and I went out to play in it. But we were back inside in less than an hour. Adam really enjoyed it, because he has never been able to play in snow and realize what it actually is. They had a wonderful time and so did I while snapping some really cute photos.
