Christina and I Christmas-1977 (I think)

I remember all those ornaments on the tree. All the blue velvet angels, big gold Christmas bulbs, the electric blue garland, the gold stars and gold angels playing intruments. Oh, and I remember on the “trunk” of that tree, were these rings of “pine needles” so you could cover up the green pole holding it all together.  I am I am almost positive that on the top of that tree is an white plastic angel with yellow hair, wings trimmed in gold fiber and she is holding a christmas carol paper.  Thirty years later, I have that angel on top of my tree every Christmas!

Our Christmas

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 12:12 pm

Christmas 2007 at the Rose household was great! I didn’t finish helping Santa wrap all the presents for the kids until 1:45am Christmas morning. I keep telling myself that I am going to wrap as I go, but I never do. Dale wasn’t any help, because he went to watch TV back in our room and by 9pm he was asleep. Susan was a big help, she wrapped and helped me set up the fish tank for Adam. At 12:30am I had to send her to bed, because I had not wrapped a single present for her yet. :)
Christmas morning I woke at 9am!! I could not believe that none of the kids were up yet, but Dale was..lol. We both had to go wake our kids up! Can you believe that! Then the paper started to fly. I was real excited that Adam actually understood Christmas this year. He loved tearing open his presents and making a huge mess. His favorite was his new tank and fish, although he walked up to it and said, “I want more fish!” So tomorrow we will go and get more fish. I believe his most favorite thing was the dollar store plastic gun, that came with 3 bullets. Go figure.

Susan finally got her cell phone and was in heave as was Noah with his new Xbox. Elias got a Jango Fett Star Wars figure he absolutely adored.

We headed to my mothers in the afternoon and to my Dads in the evening. All my brothers and sisters got together and had our pictures taken for them. The expressions on their faces when they opened those gifts were priceless. Tears were shed more than one time. I knew that they all would really love them, because for my mother it was 2001 since she had a picture of all of us and for my Dad and Step Mother, they never had a picture of the 7 of us together. It was the perfect gift! Now, I am not sure how we all will top that next year!

It was really hard at times during the day, because I missed Mom-Mom Brittingham and Dale’s mother. Certain things would remind me of them. Especially when the kids were opening their gifts, the grandparents always love to watch them and see their little faces light up. Last year I went shopping with Dales mother to help pick out gifts for everyone, I really missed doing that this year. I have to say that Dale’s father did a wonderful job doing this year by himself.

Elias and Noah went to stay with their Pop-Pop, Susan went home with her Uncle Michael and Kimberley came home with me. Talk about a kid swap..lol! I am sure that my boys are playing with their new Star Wars toys, Susan and Alex are playing Rock Band & Guitar Hero, Kimberley and Adam are here hanging out and relaxing.

Me, what am I doing today. I am washing clothes. Because last night at my Dad’s, Adam & Jaden were outside running around, when they came in Adam got coughing and he threw up all over my clothes! Oh yeah, it wasn’t the highlight of my evening. Especially because it was right in the middle of everyone finishing up Christmas Dinner.

But hey it is isn’t Christmas if there isn’t just one incident ;)

Precious

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 5:14 pm

I went to the hospital today to see a friend of mine and her new baby. Baby Caroline Nicole, was 6lbs 2oz and 18 3/4 inches long. A beautiful teeny tiny thing. Her little tiny hieney fit right in the palm of my hand. Her little strawberry blonde head fit ever so cozy in the bend of my arm. I held her for a while, reminising on the days when I had just had my children. So perfect, so tiny (well not Adam), so new and having so many emotions about being a parent.

I want one..wahhhh!

You won’t even feel it

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 6:45 pm

This is what Elias’ 16 year old sister said to him at their doctors appointment today. Both are very healthy, but Elias had to have his 5 year shots, which were 4 of them. Susan had to have 4 shots also. The funny thing was I was explaining to Elias about what the nurse was going to do and that it might hurt a little. Susan of course was telling oh I have to get a shot today too, I will go first and you will see you wont even feel it.

She hops up on the table, exposes her arm and is looking really confident. It was a good show until, the nurse said “Ok, we will do 2 in this arm and 2 in the other.” The look on Susan’s face was priceless. She was like “wait…4, did you say 4!” It was all I could do to keep from laughing.

The nurse sticks her 2 times in the left arm, Susan hollers and her eyes water up. The nurse goes to the other side and sticks her 2 more times; Susan’s face almost turned inside out. I know that the tetanus had to hurt, the size of that needle hurts just looking at it.

Elias’ turn is next and he is a trooper, he didnt fight, kick or scream. He sat there and flinched a little when she stuck him and cried when it was all over with. He runs to Susan, hugs her and says “so now we can go to Wal-Mart and get a prize we was big boys.”

1st big boy milestone

Filed under: Daily Thoughts — Trish @ 11:37 pm

Today as I was sitting here stressing over Christmas shopping online…grrrr I get a really nice phone call from Elias’ school nurse. Apparently while putting his work away in his cubby, he managed to loose both of his bottom front teeth…. **picking this post up from where I left off at 2:50pm this afternoon***

As you can see from above I was in the middle of writing a post about how Elias,  lost both of his bottom front teeth today & the teacher and Elias don’t know where they are. But in the middle of posting that I got another call from the principle saying please come quick Elias has passed out in his classroom!!

Getting from here to the school seemed like it took forever. But when I arrived, there he was (still looking very ill) sitting on the hospital bed, smiling his first toothless grin.

It seems my son forgot that his teeth were loose , had his book bag in his mouth and yanked the bag from his teeth. Sending his teeth off in the class room somewhere. Of course, I didn’t get this story until after we got home, because he was afraid to tell his teacher. He thought he would be in trouble, had a panic attack and that is why he passed out.

This did surprise me, but as I was reminded by Dale at dinner, that he comes from anxious ridden parents. Which is very true. I passed out at the eye doctor once because they did the test where they blow a puff of air in your eye. So he does get it honest.

He is perfectly fine, he shows no signs of being ill or passing out again. The tooth fairy has already promised me that he will get extra special treatment tonight.

Being a Mom is very scary, times like these you can’t get to them fast enough or get mad at yourself because you were not there in the first place. I have to say I am very impressed with the staff at his school. When I arrived he was surrounded by 4 people and they were hovering over him and babying him. Something I would have done, if I were there. My trust in his school has grown, because I know they care about him just as much as I do.

The sad part is, not only don’t I have his teeth for a keepsake (I have all of Susan’s baby teeth) I don’t even have a camera to capture his toothless grin :( It would be nice if Santa visited me early ;)
